the pieces on this album are entirely improvised (with one exception). the focus is on ensemble sketches including duos, trios, quartets and a quintet, all of which have been recorded using overdubbing. thus, the entire work is basically an investigation into spontaneous composition. furthermore, the 18 min. solo piece "part III: coal" follows my self-set dogmas of "free solo improvisation": no concious preparation concerning musical material, first take only, no post-editing.

the album has a comparatively sketchy character. the background is the fact that it was released just as the first covid-19 caused lockdown was decided in germany. at that time, there was great uncertainty about the drama of the event and possible personal consequences as well. for this reason, I wanted to finalize the album under high pressure - in the spirit of the baroque motto: carpe diem. later I decided to leave it exactly in this volatile, rushed state, because it is so in the best sense an artistic document from these world-historically oppressive days. it also marks the beginning of my "pandemic phase" of the solo guitar, which finally led to the free solo log in 2022.
